Sheref E. Hassan, MD treats acute and chronic orthopedic conditions and specializes in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He earned his bachelor of arts degree magnum cum laude in biology from Columbia University. He was awarded his medical degree for Albert Einstein College of Medicine and went on to an orthopedic surgery residency program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Montefiore and Jacobi Medical Centers. He completed the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He subsequently joined Mount Sinai Hospital’s Brooklyn Heights Medical Group where he served as an attending physician and clinical instructor for Mount Sinai Health System and directed the orthopedic department in Brooklyn Heights.

His specialty training included medical and orthopedic team coverage for the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League, the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball, the Baltimore Blast in the Major Indoor Soccer League, and many collegiate sports teams.

Dr. Hassan has several orthopedic publications and has written a book chapter regarding elbow throwing injuries. His bio-mechanical research on the elbow’s ulnar collateral ligament was featured and was presented by him at the annual meeting for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, as well as the yearly conference for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He was elected as one of the top residents in his class and chosen to represent his residency at The American Orthopaedic Association’s Resident Leadership Forum. Some of his other awards include winning first place in his residency’s Annual Selznick Memorial Alumni Day Presentations for top research presentation, the Resident Anatomy Award, and Scholarship, and winning the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons’ Research Grant while in fellowship.

Dr. Hassan’s clinical interests are the surgical and non-surgical treatment of orthopedic conditions. These are injuries that include but are not limited to general orthopedics, minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries, ACL tears, meniscus tears, rotator cuff tears, elbow ligament injuries, cartilage injuries, tendon tears, injections, regenerative medicine, and other joint complaints.

Dr. Hassan is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
